Nick Adams
Nick started training dogs while still in his teens. He took lessons on dog obedience and retrieving and used that knowledge to train his own dogs, as well as dogs belonging to friends and family. In his twenties, Nick took a position as dog trainer with Absolute K9, which later merged with Snug Pet Resort in San Diego. There he trained between 15 and 20 dogs per month. He has studied and trained dogs with a broad range of temperaments, from out of control, counter surfing house dogs to shy, sensitive dogs, to dogs with serious aggression issues. In all, Nick has successfully trained over 700 dogs, some who are now service dogs and police dogs. Whether you have a puppy in need of basic training, a dog with bad manners, a fearful, insecure dog in need of confidence, or a dog with serious behavioral issues, Nick has the experience necessary to help your dog become a productive member of your family. In 2009, Nick joined Two Paws Up to establish our Training program.
Jeanne Miller
Jeanne has had a life long love of dogs. However, that love was limited to family pets and friend’s dogs until February 2000 when Jeanne opened the doors of Two Paws Up and welcomed her first guests to her Happy Camp. Two Paws Up is a fully socialized doggie day care and boarding facility, developed as a safe place for dogs to come and play during the day and rest peacefully together at night, just like home. In order to achieve this goal, guests at Two Paws Up continue to be screened for temperament, and all dogs 6 months or older must be spayed or neutered. Over the years, Jeanne has learned a lot about how dogs get along with each other and how they communicate with one another, mostly from the dogs themselves. As a former teacher, Jeanne has applied many of the same techniques on dogs that worked successfully with people. Jeanne works with fearful and anxious dogs to help them develop confidence and learn to socialize with both dogs and people. Come to visit Two Paws Up and you are likely to meet one or more of the many Two Paws Up success stories. Obedience training, together with dog socialization leads to a happy, well adjusted dog.
What is Basic Obedience?
We teach obedience using positive motivation and treats, and corrections for unwanted behavior. You and your dog will learn the following commands: Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Wait, Go to Your Bed/Go Lay Down, Leave it, Off, and a release command such as Take a Break. All of the above commands are taught on leash. Only when the skills are mastered on leash or inside the house do we move to off leash training. In addition to the above commands, you will learn positive and negative reinforcement training techniques, dog and people socialization and avoidance.

Why Obedience Training?

Safety
A well trained dog listens when told to do something or not do something. A well trained dog will not dash out of the front door and into the street, jump up on the counter and
eat things that will harm him, knock you or grandma over with an overexcited greeting or drag you down the street when all you want is a leisurely walk.
Socialization/Avoidance
Training gives you and your dog techniques to use when greeting other dogs and people. You also learn how to avoid other dogs when a dog greeting is not appropriate.
Confidence
A well trained dog gains confidence from learning how to behave and knowing what is expected. If your dog is shy or withdrawn, obedience training makes your dog more willing to interact with the world.
Creating a Bond Between You and your Dog
The process of training makes your dog much more attentive to you and your actions. A well trained dog is much easier to handle and more fun to be with than an unruly one. You will probably find yourself wanting to spend more time doing things with your well behaved dog.
